6 octobre You Are Not Alone (Updated 21/03/09)A Blade Fan Fiction. Set after Blade Trinity. Pairing? Most likely it will be Karen/Blade. Also, I'm planning to make this story a crossover with 'Van Helsing'. Well, that is if it works out otherwise it'll just be a Blade story. But stay tuned and find out! ;) (Currently rewriting some parts) You Are Not Alone By TaladarkieJJ Chapter I - 2004, New York, USA - Six years. Six years had passed since the day he had sent her away. He had never given it much thought up until now. Then, time had seemed irrelevant. Simply because he had been too busy slaying those bloodsuckers. Still, that was no excuse. But that was before they had unleashed a virus called Daystar, the one that supposedely killed all of the vampires, or at least that was what he hoped for. He hadn't spotted any vamps for a couple of weeks now so it was reasonable to assume that most, if not all of them, died. And so he was done fighting. The end of a long and bloody crusade. Sometimes it still seemed too good to be true. No more fear of a world filled with darkness. This also meant that Blade was no longer needed. To the world, he was dead. Then, why didn't he feel like letting go so he could start a new life? Another life. One without killing, without bloodshed. Was he.. afraid? As he now pondered this bit of information, he realised way too much time had passed. He should have tried contacting her sooner. Why did he have to go and wait six years before finally making up his mind? The ugly feeling of guilt now infested in his heart. After everything she had done and went through for him, he had simply abandoned her. No.., that wasn’t entirely true and he knew it. He had to leave her. She had to leave him. He had to make her leave him. It had been the sensible thing to do. Though she was clearly a very intelligent woman, she had also proved to be very stubborn. A part of her personality he had not enjoyed much but eventually came to like as time went by and their partnership took form. After he lost a lot of blood because of the La Magra ritual, she had offered hers for there wasn‘t an alternative. Apparently she had trusted him enough to let him do the deed. So, he had fed on her to regain his strength. Strength he had so desperately needed for the upcoming battle with Deacon Frost. He remembered the way she had whimpered under his touch, almost moaning as he continued to drain her blood from her willing body. Don’t stop.. A lustfully whispered plea. Those words had sent an electric shock throughout his entire being, making it very hard for him to end his feasting. It had been so.. so exciting. A feeling so tempting, so unique. Damnit Blade. He felt utterly disgusted by himself. How could he think things like that? Drinking a human’s blood was something he should have never done. It wasn’t acceptable. He would probably continue hating himself for the rest of his life. Blade sighed heavily, his eyes travelling up the tall building in front of him. This was the apartment building where she lived nowadays. He wondered if she would be happy to see him or that she would kick him out instead. He concluded the latter would be more likely, especially after the way they parted, but he wasn’t going to back off now. 'All or nothing.’ he muttered to himself, silently stroding up the stone steps and disappearing inside the complex. He then took the elevator to the ninth floor. He found it very hard to move when it came to an halt. Reluctantly he stepped out, the doors closing behind him with a small thud. Standing in the hallway, he once more pondered if coming here had been the right thing to do. Why not walk away now he still had the chance? Like he had walked out of her life before so many years ago. Frustrated by his own little mind game, he nearly planted a fist into the wall. Not a good thing to do. He took a deep breath, forcing calmness onto his mind and body. Karen was one of the few people he genuily cared about. He already lost Whistler and.. Nyssa. When they died, he had felt this enormous wave of sadness come over him. It had been the pain of losing someone dear. That feeling had been the strongest with the old man. After all, they had shared a lot over the years. Not just the standard mentor and pupil relation.. Something more.. If he was completely honest with himself, a part of him regretted not having said how much he meant to him when he was still alive. He couldn't let that happen again. He acted upon that and started walking down the hallway with confident, strong steps. He stopped in front of the door with number 81. This is it, he silently mused, quickly scanning the area. Everything seemed alright, nothing out of the ordinary. He just had to make sure. He then knocked on the door twice. Blade felt his muscles tensioning up at the prospect of coming face to face with the headstrong hematologist he once rescued from potential death and vampirism.. the same woman who had given him the means to survive, risking her own life in the process. With his superior hearing to that of an human, he heard soft footsteps approach the wooden door from the other side, soon followed by the turn of a lock. He cast his shielded eyes downwards, feeling more nervous than any other time before. He had absolutely no idea how she was going to react to his reappearance. ‘Blade?’ A soft woman’s voice inquired. When he looked up he stared right into the face of a very surprised Karen Jensen. He smiled slightly. ‘Hi Karen.’ He waited for her to say something but there was only silence. Wonderful. He had stunned her into silence. That he could do without. The air seemed to thicken with the second that passed. Not being able to stand it any longer he cleared his throat and hesitantly asked ‘May I come in?'
Karen could hardly believe her own eyes. Before her was standing Blade, of all people. Shocked at seeing him, she almost forgot about her manners. ‘What?' He repeated his question. 'I asked if I could come in?' She licked her lips, trying to collect her thoughts. This was so unexpected. After a moment she replied. ‘Oh.. Yeah.. Sorry. Come on in.’ She stepped aside to let him pass. ‘Thanks.’ He looked around. Her previous apartment had not been this big, he remembered that much. It wasn't really his style, but still a lot nicier than where he was living at the moment. He spun around, facing her. 'You thought you would never see me again, didn't you?' He suddenly asked. The blunt question had caught her off guard. She closed the door and shook her head 'no.' The truth was she had stopped hoping after all these years. She noticed how he still looked the same, even dressed the same. Yes, same old Blade. But would she have wanted for him to be different? No. She smiled at him and gestured towards the couch. ‘Well, have a seat.’ She had a feeling he had a lot to tell. And most likely it wasn’t all good. The thought of all the pain he must have gone through over the years made her heart ache and her stomach twist with disgust and at the same time, anger. She always thought he never deserved any of that misery. But everything he ever did.. he did for the peace of his own mind and for the sake of the humans, for us to survive. He fought for those who couldn’t, he fought so the sun would keep on rising and we would still have a world after tomorrow. Blade watched her closely. He had missed that smile. To himself he had the courage to admit it. He loved the way it would lit up her face. It was beautiful. She was beautiful. He on the other hand, rarely smiled but then again, he had never had much reason. She also seemed to have forgiven him for sending her away so abruptly and disappearing out of her life. The past is the past after all, one should not have to dwell on it longer than necessary. He was happy to see that she had been able to move on with her life. He nodded and took a seat on the couch. Karen sat down beside him, folding her hands in her lap. Somehow this felt very awkward. She honestly thought she would never see him again since the day she had left his presence. Now he was at her apartment, sitting on her couch. It was as if he had sensed her uneasiness, for he was the first one to speak ‘So.. How have you been?’ She chuckled softly. ‘Fine. It wasn’t that easy going back to a normal life after.. Well.. you know. But I managed to get a job at another hospital.. From then on life turned pretty much to what it was before.. Before I met you.’ These last words left a bittersweet taste in her mouth. She tried to smile to conceal how much it really affected her. She wasn’t sure if she could hide it from him, for he was a very observant individual. He eyed her, his eyes appearing unemotional underneath those dark shades that he always wore. Karen knew that that was not the case, he was just very good at hiding it. Before she knew well what she was doing, she reached over and removed his sunglasses, revealing a pair of intriguing and mysterious dark brown eyes. For a moment she felt really stupid. Why did she do that? Blushing slightly she replied. ‘You.. Well.. You don’t need them in here, do you?’ He still looked at her with that calculating gaze, one that would unsettle any other person, but not her, she wasn’t afraid of him. She knew he meant her no harm. Shifting a bit on the couch so her full attention was directed at the Daywalker, she inquired. 'What's up with you? Why are you here? I mean.. it has been years.. I got to tell you.. Seeing you on my doorstep was quite a surprise.. but not an unpleasant one.' She flashed him a small smile. Blade contemplated this for a moment, then settled for 'I care about you.' It was an honest answer. He had missed her a lot over the years. It wasn't the same anymore after she left. 'And because I missed you.' He added truthfully. Did he really mean that? Karen did not dare to think more of it. It would only cause her more.. heartache. She wasn't quite ready for that. Ever since she left Blade's side there weren't a lot of guys in her life. The few that did manage to make an impression on her were short lived too. They just weren't him. No one could replace Blade. She suddenly realised she was staring at him. Turning away from him and his penetrating eyes, she confessed. 'I missed you too.' He immediately picked up on the change in her behaviour. She seemed so sensitive about this subject. Something he hadn't quite expected from her. He wasn't entirely sure how to deal with this. He never was one to give into his feelings easily or to express his emotions in more vulnerable ways. Not to say, he was totally clueless concerning these matters, he just wasn't very good at dealing with them. He guessed it had something to do with their 'break-up' years ago. Back then, he practically had to force her to leave and not return. It might have hurt her more than he thought. Karen knew by now she had reacted way to visibly in front of Blade. The look he was giving her said that much. He seemed confused and surprised. Time to steer their conversation in a different, less emotional direction. She didn't want to further explain herself to him, because if she knew him as well as she thought she did, he would probably be leaving soon anyway. Painting a fake smile on her face, she decided to find out more about what went on after her departure. A subject she knew, both of them would be more comfortable talking about. 'So, Blade, care to inform me about these past few years?' Chapter II - 1897, Dracula's Castle, Transylvania, Romania - 'You are too late, my friend.. My children live!' Dracula announced smugly, after he had taken on his human form. Gabriel Van Helsing knew that there wasn't much time left before he himself would become one of those ferocious beasts that haunted man's dreams.. A werewolf. Only, in this case, it would do some actual good. Only a werewolf would be able to kill the Vampirelord. Sometimes sacrifices were needed and he would do whatever needed to be done. They both had reached the point of no return. 'Then the only way to kill them.. is to kill you.' Gabriel stated, knowing that it was only seconds before midnight, seconds before Hell would be unleashed on this place of darkness, this cradle of evil. Dracula slowly kept approaching Gabriel, looking way too confident for the Vampire hunter's liking. 'Correct.' Gabriel ground his teeth, becoming more and more enraged by this thing, the blood rushing through his veins like no other time before. He could feel the beast lurking beneath the surface, waiting to come out. 'Then so be it.' He growled dangerously at the aristoic vampire before looking behind him just in time to behold the beginning of the hour of truth. Facing Dracula, whom's visage had held arrogance, now graced with utter disbelief, Gabriel began counting. 'One..' It was all he managed to bring out as he fell to his knees, crying out from the blinding pain as the flesh from his body was being torn apart, releasing the creature from its prison. To be continued.. |
