Shadows of the past (Part V)

Shadows of the past

Chapter V

Alex was the first one to speak. "Wow, wait. Did you just say Anthony?" Dylan nodded slowly. "Anthony as in Creepy thin man? That Anthony?" Again, Dylan nodded. Well what would you expect. Yes, they were her friends but she had just reveiled that Anthony or The Thin Man was still alive. The assassin with a strange hair fetish who tried to kill them. And to Alex, the psycho who tried to throw her of the Carmel mission. She didn't expect cheers of joy for him having survived that fall. Nathalie would come around.. She knew but Alex was something else. Although, she couldn't really blame her..

"But he's dead!" Nathalie said still shocked from what Dylan just told her. "No he's not. He survived." She smiled a little. "All right.. and he took care of you?" Nath asked. "Yea, he did."

A small smile appeared on Nathalie's face. "Guess he isn't all bad after all than. We sure seem to be falling from one surprise into another." Nath said to Alex who merely nodded as she was trying to digest what Dylan had just said. "What do you mean?" Dylan asked confused. Their friend didn't know about the O'Grady part yet. At least not the latest information they received. The Thin Man will have to wait.

"We really don't want to bother you with this but we don't think there's much choice.. We all know that some of the O'Grady thugs are out again but uhm.. Dylan did you know that Seamus had a brother? We just found out ourselves. Charlie told us."

Dylan didn't remember Seamus ever mentionning something about him having a brother.. But than again, she never really knew the guy in the first place so it wouldn't surprise her at all.

"No, I didn't. He never told me anything about a brother.. Who is he?" Dylan asked a bit curious.

"His name's Shawn.. Shawn O'Grady. Good looking guy. But probably as bad as Seamus.. I have to admit, I wasn't really worried about this whole O'Grady thing.. Because you know.. Seamus wanted revenge and well he's dead.. But now I am worried.. And when I didn't hear anything from you, it got me spooked for a second.. I think we should keep an extra eye out.. You never know.. We already had enough trouble with one Irish bastard. " Nath stated. "Yea, they aren't the Irish mob for nothing.." Alex agreed.

"I know.. But if we can deal with Seamus than we can deal with this guy too.. So how about we go grab a bite to eat. I'm starving.. And I can't kick ass with an empty stomach.. " Dylan joked standing up. "Sure. Let's go out." Alex said. "Btw, I have to get a new car one of these days." Dylan added as the three of them left the apartment. The Angels got in Alex's car, totally unaware of the two pair of eyes watching them.

"There she is.. Leaving again eh? Looks like she and her friends are going somewhere.. " Sullivan said, lowering himself in his carseat.  Ivan, one of his thugs who sat next to him, nodded in agreement. "And what about that guy that brought her home?" They had seen a black BMW pulling over. A few minutes later they saw Dylan getting out of that same car. They had decided to wait a little longer before leaving and they were rewarded with the arrivals of the other Angels.

Sullivan nodded thoughtfully. "Yea. I wonder who that guy is.. I couldn't get a good look at him. He drives a fancy car, though. Maybe she is just screwing him. Like she did with Seamus. You know, one of her boy toys.. Seamus always said that she was kind of a wild thing.."

"I thought she was an Angel." The other man smirked. Sullivan looked at him and grinned. "One who's going to Heaven very soon.. Let's report this to the Boss. I think he will find this very interesting."

As soon as the Angels were out of sight, they started up the car and drove off.

Dylan, Nathalie and Alex were sitting at a table at a small restaurant. She wondered when the questions would come. About her and Anthony. She saw Alex eyeing the medallion around her neck.  She had always tried to hide the medallion. As soon as the waitress who had brought their food and drinks disappeared.. Alex made a go for it. "So what's up with the Creepy Thin Man?" She asked menacingly.

Alex really had to drop that. His name was Anthony. How would they ever get along when she kept calling him like THAT? Dylan sighed. "All right. The deal is.. I kinda like him.. Alot." Alex shook her head, not wanting to believe this or understand it. "Dyl, how can you? He is a killer. Aren't you forgetting something? The guy tried to kill us! He tried to slice and dice me into little pieces!" Alex practically yelled at her. "Alex! I didn't forget that. He was only doing his Job. Like we were doing ours. And aren't you forgetting something? He saved your ass back on that roof. And he sure saved mine from Seamus. Oh wait a minute. He saved Max too!" Dylan replied angrily, trying hard to control herself.

"She's got a point Alex. He is capable of doing good." Nathalie tried to reason. She wasn't Anthony's biggest fan either, he was an asassin after all, but he did save the lives of her closest friends.. She was willing to give the guy a chance. "Doesn't that count for anything?" Dylan asked Alex. "Ok, the guy saved our asses. But can you really trust him?" She asked.

Dylan grabbed the medallion and held it firmly. She smiled at Alex. "Yes I can." Alex nodded. "All right. I just don't want you to get hurt again.. You know that don't you?" "I know. It means alot to me but don't worry.." Nathalie smiled brightly. "We can always name our organisation 'Anthony & the Angels'" She joked. Alex glared at her. "Or not!" Nathalie laughed.

Sullivan and Ivan arrived at Shawn O'Grady's luxurious house. The Irish mobster had exchanged his previous large and trendy apartment for an even bigger place. Modesty wasn't one of the man's qualities. Working for him was almost the same as working for Seamus. Shawn seemed alot like his brother. Besides the fancy stuff anyway. Seamus mostly kept a low profile, but when he would go after something, nobody better stood in his way. But whether he worked for Seamus or Shawn, he would always be loyal to the O'Grady's. No matter what.

Ivan parked the car in front of the house. They were going to go inside when someone who was dressed in a penguin suit stopped them. "Are you gentlemen looking for Mr. O'Grady?" Sullivan looked the man over before saying "Yes, we are. And who are you?" The man smiled. "I'm Bradley, the butler." "Oh I see." Sullivan smirked. "Well, nice to meet you Bradley. Now can you tell us where to find the Boss.. It's kinda urgent.." He said.  Bradley nodded. "If you gentlemen would be so kind to follow me.. Mr. O'Grady is having supper in the garden." Sullivan rolled his eyes at the older man in front of him. "All right. Come on Ivan." and they followed him into the garden.

"You know.. The Boss.. I mean Seamus.. He never needed any of this..?" Ivan whispered to Sullivan, waving his hand around to make his point. "Look, Seamus is gone. He is dead. Shawn O'Grady is our Boss now. We lost alot of men that night on the roof. He is the one who got us and a couple of others out of jail. I've never turned my back on Seamus and I will never turn my back on his brother either. You understand?" Ivan sighed. "Got it." He said as they walked towards Shawn O'Grady who was sitting at a table near the swimming pool.

"Sir, these gentlemen wish to speak to you. They said it was urgent." Shawn nodded. "Leave us." Bradley gave a quick nod and left.  "Have a seat." He said pointing at two more chairs. Sullivan and Ivan sat down across the table. "So what did you find out?" Shawn asked as he ate. Sullivan cleared his troat. "We watched her apartment for a couple hours. No sign of her. We decided to leave when a black BMW pulled over. Apparently some guy brought her home. I couldn't get a good look at him. We couldn't risk to be seen and recognized. Then he drove off. Only a few minutes later her friends arrived. After awhile they left the apartment."

Shawn took a sip from his coffee and then said. "So, she probably was with him all the time. Did she go to him or did he get her out of there? I doubt that she would just walk away without even making a statement to the police. It was a car accident after all. I think he just took her away. It has to be.. Who the hell is he? Try to find out and try to do it fast. This could be very important." Sullivan nodded at this. "Yes Boss, We'll get to it right away." He glanced over at Ivan and motioned for them to leave and so they left, leaving Shawn by himself in the garden.

An evil grin formed on the man's face. "Helen.. Sweet little Helen.. I'm coming for you.."

Alex and Nathalie dropped Dylan off at her place. Now that a few things were cleared up Nathalie still wanted to go shopping. Dylan made up some excuse so she wouldn't have to go with them. Normally she wouldn't mind but not today, she hoped to see someone else so she told them she had a headache. Being in an accident and having your head bandaged up made it more convincing.  Although it didn't hurt as much anymore as it did before. They knew about Anthony, but she wasn't sure if he would be ready to face her friends yet. Besides, she wanted to be alone with him. Make up for lost time. She bidded her friends goodbye as they left for their shopping adventure. The sun was shining, no clouds at all. It was a beautiful day. She walked up to the tall building and headed upstairs to her apartment. She smiled to herself as she entered her apartment. Soon she would see Anthony again. Who would have guessed that she would end up having a relationship with "The Thin Man" of all people? She would have thought they were nuts.. but not anymore.

She took off her jacket and purse and threw them into the armchair. She hopped onto the couch and grabbed for the remote. Dylan glanced over at the clock. It was only 3 pm. She turned on the tv. "What to do else?" Maybe she should have gone shopping with Alex and Nathalie. They always had lots of fun. "Ah well, I wouldn't be able to take my mind of Anthony anyway.. " She laid down. "I already feel like a nervous wreck." Dylan zapped through a couple of tv programs. "Not even a decent movie or what?" She turned it off and sat up. Her mind drifted to Anthony.. I hope he hasn't changed his mind.. She shook her head. "Stop it. Ofcourse he'll come..and we're going to have a good time.. Don't let Alex get to you Dylan. I know what I am doing.." She said to herself as she touched the medallion briefly. Dylan walked over to the bathroom. "Maybe a shower will help me try to relax a little." She said as she closed the door behind her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anthony paced around in his bedroom. Did he do the right thing by agreeing to go to her place tonight? It's all going so fast. Maybe a little too fast. He wondered if she had told her friends by now. How would the other Angels react? Especially that dark haired one. What was her name again? Alex, that was it. He could almost imagine the expression on her face when Dylan told her. He could understand, though. He and that dark haired Angel had had a pretty nasty fight back on the Carmel mission two years ago. He had almost succeeded in killing her. Then everything had turned around rather quickly and he ended up chained to the floor, next to crazy bitch Vivian Wood. What did Knox ever see in her anyway? Ok, he had to admit she was quite lovely but the woman was insane. She was nothing compared to Dylan. He remembered that night well. Dylan standing there in front of Vivian and Knox in nothing more than a bedsheet. Knox taunting her and finaly shooting her out of the window. And he had been a willing participant in that scheme. He sighed. He and Alex would probably never get along.
But as long as he had Dylan he didn't really care. She was all that mattered to him. He had never felt this way about someone else before. He could only conclude from this that he truly was inlove with this woman. He never thought himself possible of having such feelings. He always tried to be cold and distant. Personal feelings would only get in the way of assignments. Like a couple months ago, when he and Dylan were standing on that rooftop. After that passionate kiss he had gotten so distracted that Seamus O'Grady managed to stab him from behind. Never would he let something like that happen again. That's what you get with those damn personal feelings but God, he loved her. What was even more surprising is that it seemed she felt the same way about him. Maybe he did do the right thing. Besides he had agreed to it. He couldn't go on break promises just like that. He had made his mind up. He would go to her. Tonight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"What the hell am I going to wear?" Dylan let out a frustrated sigh as she sat down on the egde of her bed. She liked to think of this as a date. A date with Anthony and also their first. The thought of it made her smile. "Maybe I should wear a dress for a change instead of my usual pair of jeans. This is kind of a special occasion after all." She had this really nice red dress, one she had wore only once. But would Anthony like it? "Stop worrying Dylan. The red dress it is." She got the dress out of the closet and raced into the bathroom to get ready for her night with Anthony.

After almost an hour Dylan emerged from the bathroom wearing the red dress. It fitted perfectly. The dress was held up with two small spagetti straps on each side. It was also low cut which showed off quite alot of her cleavage. The dress accentuaded her womanly curves nicely. It was narrow at the waist and stopped just above her knees. Around her neck, she wore Anthony's medallion. She put on a pair of black high heeled shoes and went to stand in front of the mirror. Her hair was slightly curled. The darkred lipstick made her lips look even fuller. She had also taken the bandage off. The wound  on her head didn't bleed anymore and was slighty heeling too, so she decided to not tape it up for the night. She smiled at her image. She was truly satisfied by the way she looked. "Now all I have to do is wait for Anthony.." After taking one more glance at the mirror she made her way back to the living room. She sat down on the couch and looked over at the clock. 6.30 PM. She couldn't wait.

Shadows of the past (Part IV)

Shadows of the past

Chapter IV

The smell of coffee and donuts prickled her nose. One minute ago she was fast asleep, the next wide awake. She needed food! Her stomach grumbled in agreement. Dylan was feeling much better now. Her head didn't hurt as much as yesterday. She quickly got out of bed and went to the kitchen. Anthony was nowhere in sight. She sat down at the table and dug in. Donuts! One of her favorites. How did he know? She smiled to herself. When she looked up she saw Anthony standing in the kitchen doorway, smiling a small smile. Dylan blushed.

"Hey, hope you don't mind?" She asked glancing at the food. He shook his head and sat down next to her. She handed him a donut. "Say, how did you know that I liked donuts or was it just a guess?" Anthony searched his pockets for his notepad and pen and found it. He quickly wrote his answer down and handed her the small note. They really had to work on the talking. It would be a lot easier for both of them. But she knew he hadn't spoken a single word for a very long time so she decided not to push it. Dylan read the note. "You seemed more of a donut person to me." She smiled at him and nodded. "You were right." She gently placed his hand on top of his. They both ate in a comfortable silence.

When they were both finished eating, Dylan suggested about washing the dishes together. There was a lot stacked on the kitchen counter. Anthony finaly agreed after hesistating for a while. It was a part of domestic life and it frightened him but he agreed after all. Dylan got up and saw Anthony looking intently at her. She wondered why but she quickly found her answer when she realized she was only wearing her tshirt and panties. Oh my god this was embarassing. And in front of Anthony of all people! She felt her cheeks turn red."Uhm I think i'm going to get dressed first." She kissed him on his cheek and darted out of the kitchen leaving a stunned Anthony behind.

"I know that I shouldn't be so worried but I am Pete. This is the second time she doesn't answer her phone. I think I should be worried now. It's not like her. She knows she has to be available for any upcoming cases." Nathalie said, finaly sitting down on the couch after almost pacing a hole in their recently bought carpet. Pete sat down next to her. "Maybe Alex knows where she is." She looked at Pete and nodded. "Alright, I'll give her a call." She dialed Alex's number and waited.

"Hey Nath." Alex replied on the other side. "Hey Alex, did you hear from Dylan lately?"

"No, I haven't. Something wrong?" Nathalie sighed. "I don't know. But I can't reach her. I've called her twice by now and she doesn't answer. We both know that isn't like her." Alex agreed.

"Well, Meet me at the Agency in, let's say, an hour. We can talk then." Alex replied. "Alright, I'll meet you there. Bye Alex." And she hung up the phone. Pete hugged her. "I'm sure it's nothing.." He said softly. Nathalie laid her head on Pete's shoulder. "Than why do I have this really strange feeling about it?" Pete shrugged. He didn't know either.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anthony and Dylan were washing the dishes. Well she was doing the washing part and he was doing the drying of part. She smiled at the sight of him drying of wet dishes. She had never thought, not even in her wildest dreams, to see something like this. This was just Anthony and not the "creepy thin man" from the Alley at Corwins', not that psychopath they had thought he was. He may be a killer, an assassin but he was also a fighter, a surviver of life. A man who had lost his parents in a fire when he was just a little boy and was forced to stay at an Orphanage.
"You know, I should go back to my place. I left my Cell phone there.. Nathalie and Alex are probably worried sick by now.. I have some explaining to do.." She said putting the dishes in the cupboard. Anthony nodded slowly. "Do you mind if I tell them about you?" Anthony shook his head. "You sure? Cause if you really don't want me to, it's ok, honestly.." She received a nod from him. "Oke, thanks." She said smiling.
"They will be a little surprised at first and they will have to get used to the situation.. But it'll be fine.." Anthony wished he could believe her. He knew that Dylan was only trying to put him at ease but after all that had happened the past couple years it would never be easy. He and the Angels had been eachothers enemies.
"Why don't you put that kitchen towel away..?" Dylan asked leaning seductively against the counter. He quickly got rid of it and moved closer to her. She placed a hand on the back of his neck and pulled him down. They kissed eachother slowly, savoring it. She felt a hand snake into her hair and she knew what was coming. He had been good about it, for a while.. She didn't mind, though. Somehow she thought it was kinda exciting so she let him do it. He pulled hard and a few strands of her auburn hair came loose. She gasped at the sudden pain on her scalp. He smelled her hair and let out a scream. Dylan rubbed the spot and smiled slightly. He looked guiltily at her. "Its ok.. Just try not to do it all the time.." Anthony nodded. He could live with that.
"By the way, can you give me a ride home? I don't have a car anymore.. Stupid accident.. I loved that car." He arched one of his famous eyebrows at her. She grinned at him. "You really should get a patent on that.. But yea I did love that car.." He shook his head. Dylan was confused but then understanding dawned upon her. "Ah you mean the accident?" He nodded. "Yea I remember a few things. A car coming from the opposite direction, its headlights blinding me.. Then another car..  It was almost like someone was trying to hit me or drive me of the road on purpose.. But I wasn't really paying attention on the driving either.. I was thinking of you.." Then she remembered something.. O'Grady.. She shook her head trying to get rid of that unpleasant thought. "That's pretty much everything.." Dylan lied. Anthony looked a bit worried. "I'm fine, aren't I?" She took his hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "How did you know of the accident anyway?" She asked. He took the notepad and started to write an explanation. He handed her the note. "I went for a walk and then I heard a loud bang. I thought it was a car accident so I decided to check it out. I didn't recognize you immediatly but when I saw it was you I brought you here as fast as I could." She smiled. "Again, Thanks." He scribbled a few words and gave the note to her. "You're welcome." She read out loud and laughed. Even Anthony had to surpress a small grin. "So what about that ride?" He rolled his eyes at her and nodded.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"So, you called her twice and she didn't pick up? And she didn't call you back either?" Nath shook her head. "No, that's what worries me.. It's not like her."

"Maybe she just wants some time alone.. You know how Dylan is.. I'm sure she'll call us anytime soon." Alex reassured her. "Or something has happened to her.." Nath mumbled. "Hm, are you thinking what I think you are thinking?" Nath nodded. "O'Grady." They both exclaimed.

Bosley walked into the room. "Hey Bos. We need to talk to Charlie about Dylan.."

"Hey Girls. That's good cause he wanted to talk to you too." Bosley replied. Alex and Nath exhanged confused looks. Bosley put on the speaker box and went to sit at his desk. "Good morning Angels."

"Good morning Charlie." Both the Angels said. "I have some information on the O'Grady's. It seems that.."

"Charlie we think Dylan's in trouble." Nathalie interupted.

"Why do you think so?" He asked. Nathalie looked at Alex who continued. "Nathalie has called her a few times and she doesn't pick up.. It's not like her. Besides she would have called back by now. She must have noticed it. And we're her best friends. She wouldn't ignore us.. Would she?"  Nathalie shook her head. "No, She wouldn't. I have a bad feeling about this."

"Indeed, very strange Angels. But would you take a look at the screen." Charlie said as a huge picture of a guy appeared on the big screen.

"Do you know him Alex?" Nathalie asked. Alex shook her head. "No, although he seems familiar in a way.." "It looks like a guy Dylan would fall for." Nathalie joked as they were both totaly unaware of who this man was.

He was well build and had short brown hair and soft brown eyes.  "That's probably because this man is Shawn O'Grady."

"What!?" Nathalie exclaimed. She couldn't believe this. "We all know that Seamus O'Grady had a lot of associates, most of them weren't relatives.. But he does have a brother.. One who is still alive. He most likely knows of Seamus' death."

Alex looked shocked. She got up and started to pace around the room. "This is NOT good.." "You got that right. The guy is probably out to get Dylan! I just know it." Nathalie said.

"Now Angels, It's not certain that Shawn O'Grady will go after Dylan.. Although, those escaped thugs was probably his doing aswell. " Charlie said to the Angels. "If he hasn't got Dylan already.." Alex added under her breath.

"You are right Charlie.. We are just worried.. But we should first check out her place. Maybe there's a reasonable explanation for all of this. But this O'Grady mess is more serious than I thought. I didn't think it was a big deal. But that's Seamus' brother which can never be good if you ask me." Alex sighed and sat back on the couch. "Yeah, these guys are getting on my nerves."

Bosley got up from behind his desk. "Anyone in the mood for coffee?" He asked.  Nathalie and Alex looked at eachother and nodded. Now was an excellent time.

"I guess no shopping today." Nathalie sighed.  As soon as they had finished their coffee they would go to Dylan's apartment.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anthony pulled his Black Bmw Z4 aside. Dylan had asked him for a ride home. Now they were parked outside in front of her apartment. She hesitated to get out.
"Want to come inside?" She asked fidgeting with her set of keys. He turned to look the other way. He wanted to but didn't think it would be a good idea. She would already have alot of explaining to do, having him there would only make things worse.
She touched his hand and when he looked at her he shook his head. "Maybe Later?" At that he nodded. He got a small smile in return. "Why don't you come by tonight.. I'll make sure that Nathalie and Alex aren't around.. 7 O'clock OK for you?" After a few seconds he nodded. "Alright. See you later then." She leaned in and placed a quick kiss on his lips. She then got out of his car and walked towards her apartment as she heard him drive off. How was she ever going to explain this to her friends.
She walked upstairs, her mind already drifting off to Anthony. She started to miss him. She opened the door and quickly closed it behind her.
Dylan walked over to the small salon table where she had left her phone. Just like she suspected, Nathalie had already called her twice. "I better go change these bandages first." She said gently touching her head.  She threw her cell on the couch and went into her bathroom. When she removed them she could see the wound had healed a little. It looked more like a flesh wound. And Anthony had taken good care of her. She disposed the bloody bandage and got another one from out of her medicine locker. She disinfected the wound once more and then bandaged it up.  She smiled at herself in the mirror. Good enough. She walked back into the living room and hopped onto the couch. "Time to call Nath." She was about to dial the number when apparentely someone was at the door. "Damn. That's gotta be them."
She tried to calm down but her heart continued to thumb fast in her chest. "Just tell them about the accident.." She took one last deep breath and went to open the door.
"Hiya guys." Dylan smiled sheepishly. "Dylan! You allright?" Nathalie replied. "I'm fine. Come on in." She said stepping aside to let them in. "What's with your head?" Alex asked.  She closed the door and moved over to the couch. "You probably want to sit down.." Dylan said as she sat down. Nathalie and Alex exchanged looks and then followed her lead. "All right. Now what happened? I called you a couple times and you didn't pick up. We got worried. That's why we're here." Nathalie explained.
Ok, here goes nothing. "Sorry Nath. I forgot to take my Cell with me. I went for a drive. And I .. Well I just got home. I was in an accident.. Nothing too serious. Only a head injury." She explained. "Are you sure you're alright? What did the doctors say?" Alex asked. Oh boy! She didn't even make it to a hospital. Just tell them the truth. "I don't know. I didn't go to a hospital. Someone got me out of there and took care of me. Treated my wounds.." Dylan explained further. Nathalie looked suprised. "That doesn't make any sense. Why not call for an ambulance or at least take you to a hospital for treatment." She said. "He couldn't." Dylan simply stated. "Why not?"
Dylan her troat suddenly became very dry. "Because that someone.. " Alex and Nathalie were both looking very anxious to find out. She swallowed hard before she continued. "It was Anthony." There she said it. She stared at her feet, not daring to look at them. But she had to eventually. She glanced up at her friends to find them staring at her in complete shock, like they had seen a Ghost..
My Everything.
Wind blows,
Stars shine,
You are mine.
It's a sign..
Of God.
We will be together,
Forever and ever.
No one can come
between us.
Oh my love,
Say you will be mine.
Can't live without you.
You are my strength,
You are my everything.
Just come with me,
You will see.
Everything will be fine,
As long as your mine.
Love you for eternity.
There's no one like you.
You're everything to me!
